Hints get stronger as you go. The answer is always the last step — nothing is revealed until you tap.
This Queens has exactly one solution, and you can reach it without guessing. Every step below follows from the rules. A “check” step shows why a queen can't go somewhere; it never asks you to gamble.
1Where to lookShow hint
Look at row 1.
2The first deductionShow hint
The open cells of row 1 all belong to the pink region, so its queen sits in row 1 and its other cells are empty.
Pattern
A row trapped in one region. When every open cell of a row is the same color, that region's queen is in the row, so cross out the rest of the region.
3The first queenShow hint
Row 3 has one open cell left, in column 5, so its queen goes there.
Steps 1–9 of the walkthrough rule out the cells marked ×.
4Solve it step by stepShow hint
Rows count from the top and columns from the left. Every queen rules out the rest of its row, its column and its color region, plus the eight cells around it.
- A row trapped in one region. The open cells of row 1 all belong to the pink region, so its queen sits in row 1 and its other cells are empty.
- A region trapped in one column. The red region lies entirely in column 1, so the queen of column 1 belongs to it and every other cell of column 1 is empty.
- No-touching check. A queen at row 4 or 5, column 2 would leave the red region with no open cell, so both cells stay empty.
- No-touching check. A queen at row 6, column 3 would leave the yellow region with no open cell, so that cell stays empty.
- A region trapped in one column. The purple region lies entirely in column 2, so the queen of column 2 belongs to it and every other cell of column 2 is empty.
- A region trapped in one row. The gray region lies entirely in row 9, so the queen of row 9 belongs to it and every other cell of row 9 is empty.
- Pigeonhole: two columns in two regions. The open cells of columns 8 and 9 all belong to the blue and pink regions, so their queens sit in columns 8 and 9 and their other cells are empty.
- A column trapped in one region. The open cells of column 7 all belong to the beige region, so its queen sits in column 7 and its other cells are empty.
- No-touching check. A queen at row 3, column 2 or 3 would leave row 2 with no open cell, so both cells stay empty.
- Last open cell. Row 3 has one open cell left, in column 5, so its queen goes there.
- Last open cell. Column 6 has one open cell left, in row 8, so its queen goes there.
- Last open cell. Row 7 has one open cell left, in column 8, so its queen goes there.
- Last open cell. The beige region has one open cell left (row 4, column 7), so its queen goes there.
- Last open cell. The red region has one open cell left (row 5, column 1), so its queen goes there.
- Last open cell. The purple region has one open cell left (row 2, column 2), so its queen goes there.
- Last open cell. The yellow region has one open cell left (row 6, column 4), so its queen goes there.
- Last open cell. The gray region has one open cell left (row 9, column 3), so its queen goes there.
- Last open cell. The pink region has one open cell left (row 1, column 9), so its queen goes there.
