About hints.day

Hi, I'm Kevin. I run hints.day on my own: I built its solvers, and every morning I publish the day's hints and answers for LinkedIn's daily games — Queens, Tango, Zip, Mini Sudoku, Patches, Pinpoint, Crossclimb and Wend. The New York Times' Wordle, Connections, Strands and Pips are added automatically as soon as each new puzzle is out.

I believe the best help is the smallest one that gets you moving again. That's why every page starts with a light nudge and only reveals the full answer when you ask for it. The solvers work the same way: they can place a single queen, fill one cell or draw one stretch of a path, so you can still finish the puzzle yourself.

The solvers run entirely in your browser. Before a LinkedIn grid answer goes live, my solver has to find exactly one solution for that board; if it finds none or more than one, nothing is published until I've checked the board again. The written solving path on the grid puzzles comes from the same engine: it explains each step in the order a person would find it, and it only appears when it arrives at the published answer. When a puzzle genuinely allows more than one answer, as Pips sometimes does, I say so.

I use AI in a few clearly bounded places. Screenshots of the LinkedIn boards are read by software, partly by an AI model, but a board only goes live once my solver confirms it has exactly one solution. Some of the extra hints are written by an AI model; each one is checked automatically and dropped if it gives the answer away. The guides and translations are drafted with AI help; new ones are reviewed before they're published. The answers themselves never come from AI: NYT answers come from the puzzles' own data, LinkedIn grid answers are computed by the solver, and the step-by-step solving paths follow from fixed logic rules, not generated text.

hints.day is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by LinkedIn or The New York Times. Game names belong to their owners; I simply love playing them.
