How to play LinkedIn Pinpoint
Unofficial hints. Not affiliated with LinkedIn.
LinkedIn Pinpoint feeds you words one after another — five at most — and every one of them fits the same hidden category. Your job is to name that category, and the fewer words you needed to see, the better you score. A single word is almost never enough to be sure, so each new reveal is a chance to narrow your guess.
That makes Pinpoint a game of nerve as much as of reasoning: guessing early scores well if you are right, and costs you an attempt if you are not. There is nothing to learn before your first puzzle, so if you enjoy word association, or the way a game of twenty questions narrows down, you will be at home here straight away.

The rules
- Every puzzle has one category that all of its words belong to.
- The words are revealed one at a time, up to five of them.
- You may guess the category at any point, without waiting for the rest.
- A wrong guess uses up one of your attempts.
- The fewer words you needed, the better your score.
How a game goes, step by step
- Read the first word as a hypothesis, not an answer. Dozens of categories could contain it, so note the two or three that come to mind and wait for the next one.
- Take the second word and keep only the categories that fit both of them. This is usually where a wide field narrows to a handful.
- Hold your guess until the second or third word unless you are certain. One word is too broad to pin anything down, and by the fifth the category is almost too obvious to enjoy.
- When a new word looks unrelated to the others, treat that as the real clue. It usually means the category is narrower than your first instinct: a shared sound, a shared origin, or a subset of the idea you had in mind.
- Commit as soon as one category explains every word you have seen, and phrase it as plainly as you can.
Three tips for your first games
- The third word tends to do the heavy lifting. If the first two could point anywhere, waiting for one more reveal costs you less than a wrong guess does.
- Say the words out loud. A category built on how words sound, or on a smaller word hiding inside each of them, is much easier to hear than to see.
- Read the words as clues rather than as a list. The question is never what one word means on its own, only what all of them have in common.
Questions about LinkedIn Pinpoint
How many words does Pinpoint give you?
Up to five, revealed one at a time. You are not meant to see them all: the score rewards naming the category from as few as possible, which is why most players aim to commit on the second or third.
Is it better to guess early or to wait?
Early guesses score better when they land, but a wrong one costs an attempt and attempts go quickly. Waiting for a second or third word is the middle ground, since a single word is nearly always too broad to reason from.
What if the words seem to have nothing in common?
That normally means the category is more specific than you assumed, not broader. Look for a shared sound, a shared origin, or a narrow slice of the wider idea you had — the odd word out is doing the real work.
When does a new LinkedIn Pinpoint puzzle come out?
LinkedIn releases every game's new puzzle at midnight Pacific Time. Right now that is 12:00 AM (Los Angeles), 2:00 AM (New York), 7:00 AM (London), 12:30 PM (New Delhi). The puzzle is the same for every player in the world and stays up until the next reset.
Is LinkedIn Pinpoint free?
Yes. LinkedIn Pinpoint is free to play with a LinkedIn account, in the LinkedIn app and on the website. You'll find it in the Games section.
What happens to my streak if I miss a day?
A streak counts consecutive days on which you finished the puzzle, so a missed day starts it again from zero. Playing soon after the reset is the safest way to keep it; if you're stuck, our daily page reveals one hint at a time so you can finish without seeing the whole solution.
Can I play older LinkedIn Pinpoint puzzles?
LinkedIn only shows the current day's puzzle. Our archive keeps the hints and the solution for every past puzzle we covered, so you can check a day you missed.
